Jignasa Pandya has been working with SEWA in rural development for the past 27 years. She has conducted research studies with SEWA’s grassroots research team to develop various initiatives aimed at lifting poor women workers out of the vicious cycle of poverty.
Currently, she coordinates the activities of the Shree Vanlakshmi Tree Growers Cooperative, a cooperative formed by landless women farmers in Mehsana district, focused on achieving sustainable livelihoods while protecting the environment. She also manages the SEWA Eco Tourism Centre, which facilitates awareness and education programs for various groups, students, and people to bring them closer to nature. Furthermore, she oversees the SHANU Education program implemented in Patan district, which aims to provide education to children of poor artisan members and vocational training to young/adolescent girls who have dropped out, to help them attain better lives and livelihoods. I also coordinate wellness programs for our rural members.
Jignasa also works to coordinate health and wellness initiatives for women workers at the district level. Many of these women live in remote areas where proper healthcare facilities are not available, and they often lack awareness about their physical health issues and common diseases.
